Great 4 Days Birding with Pablo!
Great 4 days birding the areas around Tarifa with guide, Pablo Santonja. As senior birders from US, we were struck by the variety of birds and habitat in this area, especially during migration. Raptors and vultures migrating to Africa during first week of September. Pablo took us to various beautiful highpoint along the strait to get the best observations. Also a good variety of shore birds including some African species in the lagoons along the coast. As a plus, the area agriculture supports song birds such as larks and bunting. Pablo was enthusiastic and made sure we had a great time plus wonderful lunches at local restaurants. We think anyone who enjoys nature would enjoy touring with Pablo. The weather was amazing due to winds from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean - pleasantly cooler than Malaga. Comfortable birding all day. We went to a spectacular vulture roost one morning and enjoyed beautiful flamingos on another day.
Our lifelists have greatly expanded!!!
Incredible experience with Birding the Strait !
We spent a most enjoyable morning with Javi in late July 2022. Off-peak season for birds but Javi took us see vultures, owls, a variety of other raptors and several large wading species. Highlight for me personally was a bee-eater. Between birding sites, Javi shared interesting details of bird migration as well as the geology, history and ecology of the area. Highly recommended and would definitely like to return when the wetlands are busier.
Fun for Birders and non-Birders alike
Our experience with Birding the Strait was nothing short of phenomenal. I enthusiastically recommend booking a tour with Birding the Strait—for birders and non-birders alike. Javi was an informative and pleasant guide. He took us to viewing spots teeming with birds and also offering beautiful vistas of Tarifa's natural surroundings. He has a remarkably quick eye and is incredibly knowledgable; we thoroughly enjoyed our full-day trip with him. We were thrilled to see two critically endangered species on our trip and have excellent opportunities for photography. While the trip exceeded my expectations as a birder, even my non-birding significant other said that she would book a full-day tour again. It is an excellent way for any admirer of nature to experience the abundance of scenic beauty, flora, and fauna Andalusia has to offer.
Fantastic birding experience!
We had two fantastic days of private guiding. We saw many birds and Yeray was very knowledgeable. We look forward to birding again with Birding The Strait. 100% recommended.
Made me see the area with completely different eyes. Great experience
The guide (Javi) knew the area inside out. He knew exactly where to go to see which birds, he asked me which species I was interested in the most and his knowledge of the birds' biology and habits is most impressive. You could tell that it's not just a job, but that he really loves birds. We began the tour by looking at some sleepy littel owls, which were in some olive trees that I would never have inspected without him. We saw vultures, a montagu's harrier, bald ibisses (!), storks, falcons, woodchat shrikes and many others in just half a day.
It was easily the best day of my holiday.
Thank you , Javi.
Had the pleasure to do birding with Pilar Borrero one and a half day. I have had many guides, but he is the most skilled and professional I have met. Almost 100 species - Rüppell's vulture and 12 Northern bald ibis was higlights.
Best half day of our holiday by far
We did a half day trip on Monday 3rd October with Pablo, four of us. We went to four different spots, and were honestly astounded by the quality of this tour, we can’t recommend it enough. Pablo’s knowledge of the birds and ability to identify them was astonishing, and he was also just a genuinely lovely guy to chat with as we drove the short trips between the spots. There were several points where we were so surrounded by birds that you had no idea which ones to focus on, and Pablo did a fantastic job of explaining the different characteristics to identify them, as well as setting up his scope so we could get a fantastic look at the birds. He asked what we were most interested in seeing when he picked us up, and we told him birds of prey, and over the four hours we saw at least ten different species of birds of prey, nearly all of which I had never seen before. We also saw a huge variety of other birds, personally adding about thirty new species to my list.
We would recommend this 1000%, to both avid birdwatchers, and people who are just interested in the local wildlife.
Best birding guides in Cádiz, Andalucia!
Anne M, 03-10-2022
These guys are the best birding guides to explore the immense wealth in birdlife an other fauna in the South of Spain, Cádiz. Especially the Strait of Gibraltar, the busiest bird migration route in Europe and the wetlands of La Janda but also Morocco and the rest of Spain. Highly professional with very broad knowledge. They tailor-make unforgettable experiences for groups and individuals. Hugely recommended!
Excellent and competent guide (Pablo). Went to La Janda, two places with Bald Ibises not far away, and 3 spots for migrating raptors very close to Tarifa. Pablo's expertise was really great; without him we would have missed quite a lot of species (or not have known where to look for them). From 9 am to 6 pm , 2 people for 2x110€, a fair price for what you get. To be recommended to anybody who does not know the area.
